Upholstery Apprenticeship Program

Learn a Timeless Trade at Yesteryear Designs

At Yesteryear Designs, we believe quality craftsmanship should never become a lost art. We are passionate about restoring beautiful furniture, preserving history, and passing the skills of professional upholstery to the next generation.

Our Upholstery Apprenticeship Program is designed for individuals with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an appreciation for working with their hands. Previous upholstery experience is not required—we are looking for people who are eager to build a career in a skilled trade.

10-Week Apprenticeship & Probationary Period

Every apprentice begins with a structured 10-week paid apprenticeship and probationary period. During this time, you will work alongside experienced upholsterers, learning through hands-on instruction while assisting with actual customer projects.

Training includes:

  • Shop safety and proper tool use

  • Furniture identification and construction

  • Fabric measuring and layout

  • Foam, padding, and support systems

  • Sewing techniques

  • Traditional and modern upholstery methods

  • Pattern matching and fabric installation

  • Furniture disassembly and reassembly

  • Quality control and finishing

  • Shop organization and workflow

Throughout the program, apprentices receive ongoing coaching and weekly evaluations to measure progress and identify areas for growth.

Performance Evaluation

Your success will be measured by your:

  • Attendance and reliability

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Ability to follow instructions

  • Quality of workmanship

  • Productivity and efficiency

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Professionalism and teamwork

Employment Opportunity

Successful completion of the 10-week apprenticeship may lead to a permanent position with Yesteryear Designs.

Because every apprentice develops at a different pace, continued employment is based on demonstrated ability, craftsmanship, dependability, and commitment to excellence.

Skill-Based Pay Progression

We believe employees should be rewarded for what they can do—not simply how long they’ve been here.

After successfully completing the apprenticeship, employees advance through a graduated pay scale based on demonstrated skills, productivity, and craftsmanship.

As new techniques are mastered and greater responsibility is earned, compensation increases accordingly. Advancement opportunities include becoming a Lead Upholsterer, Restoration Specialist, or Shop Mentor as experience grows.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • Dependable and punctual

  • Detail-oriented

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Comfortable working with hand and power tools

  • Willing to learn from experienced craftsmen

  • Able to lift and move furniture safely

  • Interested in building a long-term career in a skilled trade

Why Yesteryear Designs?

At Yesteryear Designs, we don’t just restore furniture—we preserve history, craftsmanship, and heirlooms that families will enjoy for generations.

Our apprenticeship is more than a job. It’s an opportunity to learn a respected trade, work with experienced artisans, and build a career with a growing company that values quality, integrity, and craftsmanship.

If you’re ready to learn a skill that will last a lifetime, we’d love to meet you.
